Welcome to Wales, where just a hop across the border from England feels like you've entered a new world entirely. This compact country boasts inspiring hills, formidable castles and moody coastlines of crumbling rock and golden sand.
This 17th century converted barn, with its enviable views over Ullswater lake outstanding quality and luxury with true flair and sophistication. It fits comfortably into the landscape and its split level layout boasts walls of glass that appear to bring the outside in! It has four double bedrooms, three with lake views and an enormous lounge with fine furnishings and even a minstrel’s gallery! There is WiFi throughout and Bluetooth allowing you to play your own music, or choose from Ullswater’s own database. It is a great facility for family gatherings, or birthday celebrations The kitchen features: an electric oven and induction hob, microwave, dishwasher, fridge, freezer and kettle tap and the dining room is light and airy with spectacular views over Ullswater.
Exclusive use of the estate provides you with accommodation for up to twenty people and includes the boathouse and jetty; spa and wellness sanctuary featuring a Laconium and bar; the infinity terrace and hot tub; the function suite with the minstrel’s gallery in the Lake Room; the cinema; and the barbecue terrace. With 26 acres of private grounds to explore and ½ mile of lake shoreline to enjoy, this truly is a little bit of paradise.
We’ve tried to think about everything to make your stay at Martindale Estate just perfect. In all of our big houses to rent, we provide all the essential features to cater for a large group. Here’s a list of all the practical provisions we have at the house. If there’s anything you can’t see here but need, just ask as we’ll see what we can do.
The Lake District is one of the most fantastic locations in the country for walking. If strenuous hill walking is your thing, it’s all there, but there also plenty of opportunities for gentle country strolls with stunning views and, if your party includes a wheelchair or buddy, check out the Miles without Stiles routes. If you want we can arrange private guided walking or pony trekking. Why not try sailing or canoeing on the lake, or indulge in some private fishing lessons, or spend a day shooting, all of which we can arrange for you? We can even provide private flying lessons in a gyrocopter! Or we can arrange for a massage, Pilates or yoga classes in the comfort of the house.

We're often asked if check-in and out times can be extended. It is occasionally possible, but it depends on the arrangements made for cleaning between bookings.
Yes, we ask to hold a cautionary deposit of £1,500 during your stay at Martindale Estate. This is requested just two weeks prior to your stay, and is returned shortly after, assuming no damage to the property or its contents (see our Booking T&Cs for more information).
